Sublimation Ink Printing

When screen printing is used to print T-shirts, hats, hoodies and other fabric items, the ink is simply laid at the surface of the garment. As the garment wears, the overall quality of the print will fade, eventually leaving a poor impression of your original design. Sublimation ink printing takes a deeper approach to the printing process. The process essentially turns the ink into a gas, depositing it deep into the material for a strong bond and a long-lasting image that will deliver solid performance for a very long time.

The Sublimation Ink

Sublimation is the process of a solid changing directly to a gas without passing through the usual liquid state that typical printing inks use. Using a higher temperature press between 350-400ºF, the ink and transfer material are turned into a gas, then deposited through the base material of the item being imprinted, creating a much longer-lasting image on your item. One the heat is removed, the ink is permanently locked onto and into the fibers of the base material.

When To Choose Sublimation Ink Printing

There are a number of different situations where sublimation ink printing is your best choice. When embroidery isn’t practical for your specific situation, sublimation ink printing provides you with high-quality, long-lasting results. Reaching a deeper level of the material’s surface, it provides a stronger bond to the material than silkscreening, print-to-cut vinyl or direct-to-substrate printing processes. This makes it an economical but high-quality choice for your needs.
